How the calculator works
Federal income tax uses the 2026 brackets (10% to 37%) after a $16,100 standard deduction for single filers or $32,200 for married couples filing jointly. Social Security is 6.2% of wages up to $184,500, and Medicare is 1.45% plus 0.9% above $200,000 ($250,000 married). Each state page then applies that state's 2026 brackets, deductions, exemptions and credits, plus any required disability or paid-leave contributions.
Every estimate assumes one earner with wages only, the 2026 standard deduction, and no tax credits. It leaves out the new federal deductions for tips, overtime and seniors, the child tax credit, itemized deductions, and pre-tax health insurance.
Frequently asked questions
Which states have no income tax in 2026?
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming don't tax wages. Washington and Alaska still take small payroll contributions for state programs.
Which state has the highest take-home pay on a $75,000 salary?
For a single filer earning $75,000 in 2026, Florida comes out on top at about $61,593 a year. Oregon is lowest at about $56,009, mainly because of its state income tax and payroll contributions.
What taxes come out of a paycheck?
Federal income tax, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500 in 2026), Medicare (1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200,000), state income tax in most states, and in some states local income tax and paid-leave or disability contributions.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses 2026 federal brackets and each state's 2026 rates, deductions and exemptions, including laws passed in 2026 that apply retroactively. It's an estimate for one earner with no credits or itemized deductions, so your actual tax can differ.
